Student Housing Information
Student Housing Move-in

We’re excited you’re beginning your Jayhawk career with us! Check our move-in website for the information you need. Before you leave home, remember to print a “boarding pass” for your car and observe your arrival time. Maps are also given for each community’s move in. On move-in day, ignore your GPS and follow the map -- some streets are designated as one-way and other streets are blocked during move in.

After move-in, you may want a calendar for the next school year. This calendar includes dates for changing dining plans, winter and spring breaks and more. Look at the page tabs to choose the semester you want to see. We look forward to having your student at KU! Rock Chalk!

Students move in early and join Jay Squad

KU Student Housing welcomes residents who want to move in before the official move-in day. You may be a returning resident or first-year student -- just submit your information online to join Jay Squad.

Jay Squad member benefits…
  • All Jay Squad members may move in early for free. Move-in day for volunteers will be Aug. 15 and they will attend a brief training session that day.
  • Participants who fulfill their shift are eligible for one of three $500 room credits on their student housing account.
  • T-shirt and free food.
  • A chance to meet new people and begin building a community of Jayhawks.
Roommate Agreements

Once your student has moved in, the adjustment to college, academics and roommates begins. We want to help with successful roommate communication and as part of that, residence life staff members ask your student to complete a Roommate Agreement. Roommates discuss expectations for sharing their space — including studying, quiet time, visitors, borrowing items, and safety. As you visit with your student, ask about the Roommate Agreement and encourage your student to be open and honest with new roommates.

Watkins Health Services Information
Mandatory Alcohol Education

KU requires alcohol education for all newly enrolled, degree seeking students under the age of 21 as of August 1 of the academic year.  Students receive instructions via email on how to access the AlcoholEdu course that is available starting July 27. Any KU student can voluntarily take the course.

Deadlines are as follows:
  • August 17 - Deadline to complete Part 1 (takes about 2 hours to complete). Students receive an email notification from AlcoholEdu when Part 2 is available.
  • October 5 - Deadline to complete Part 2 (takes about 15 minutes to complete). Failure to complete both parts of the course by the deadlines will result in a hold on a student’s record that will prevent enrollment for the next semester.
For best results in accessing the program, Chrome or Firefox is preferred over Internet Explorer or other web browsers.  For complete instructions, or if you have questions about this course or KU’s Mandatory Alcohol Education Policy, visit the Alcohol and KU website.

Advice from Watkins Health Services (WHS)
Ensure your Jayhawk has a smooth transition to campus this fall by adhering to KU’s Immunization Compliance Policy and talking to your student about their health insurance coverage.
  • All newly enrolled or re-enrolled students born on or after January 1, 1957, must show proof of two vaccinations for Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR). Additionally, all students living in university-owned group housing are required to be vaccinated for meningitis. For more information visit the Policy Compliance page on our website.
  • WHS, conveniently located on campus, provides comprehensive medical care to keep your student healthy. Be sure to secure a health insurance card to send with your student when they leave home for college.  We recommend contacting your insurance company to confirm if WHS is considered an in-network plan, verify coverage for specific services and identify co-pays and deductibles.  For even more tips, we encourage you download the Parents’ To‐Do List on the Parents page of our website.
  • NEW – Through the secure WHS patient portal, your student can easily upload their immunization records and current insurance card. Once your student has enrolled, they can access their portal account using their KU login.

Important Student Account Services Information
Tuition Invoices & Refunds for Fall 2018:
Students are currently enrolling for the fall semester. Tuition rates reflected on the student account are rates for the 2017-2018 academic year. Rates for 2018-2019 were approved in late June; thus, any adjustments due to the rate increase should be updated in Enroll and Pay by August 1.

If you are interested in a payment plan, Tuition Management Services (TMS) offers a two, three and four month payment plan with plans beginning in July. The deadline to sign up for a payment plan for fall is September 15th. The last payment is due October 1st. The fee for setting up a payment plan is $45. More information can be found at our website.

Refunds:
If your student has not signed up for direct deposit, please encourage them to do so. This is not just for students receiving excess financial aid. Over their career at KU, many students receive refunds for dropped hours, changes in housing contracts, etc. By receiving their refunds via direct deposit, they receive the money faster and it is more reliable than the postal service. Many students move without updating their address and this delays the refund reaching the student.

Parents with PLUS loans may also sign up for direct deposit by completing this form.

Payments:
Payments made by electronic check incur no additional service fee. Electronic checks require the routing number and account number of the checking or savings account. Payments made by credit and debit cards incur a 2.85% convenience charge - an increase over the previous percentage. The actual amount of the convenience charge will be displayed before finalizing the payment. International students may also use Flywire to manage payments.

Students who pay online themselves will be taken to the TouchNet secure site when they click on the “Pay Tuition, Housing and Other Charges” button in Enroll & Pay. They can then make a payment as usual.

Students who have someone else pay on their behalf have extra steps. If the student has not established a delegate, they must first set up a delegate. The second step is to set up payment delegates, people authorized to pay electronically on their behalf. To avoid confusion, students should create payment delegate authorization before the next payment is due. This step can only be completed by the student and can be revoked by the student at any time. Payment delegates receive an email notifying them as soon as they have been authorized in TouchNet. When transferring from Enroll & Pay, these delegates will then need to log in to TouchNet to make a payment using this new authorization.

Please Note: Enroll & Pay and TouchNet are separate systems and individuals who currently are authorized to pay on a student’s behalf will need to have a new payment delegate profile set up through the TouchNet system, even if they have delegate status in Enroll & Pay.

Mental Health Away from Home
Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health disorders reported by college students according to the American College Health Association. Here are some tips to help your student reduce stress.
  • It is critical for students to become as independent as possible with basic life skills before coming to college.
  • Even good change can be stressful.
  • Make sure your student can handle taking their medication and getting refills on their own.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) on campus helps students with issues related to adjusting to college and other psychological, interpersonal, and family problems. They also offer an 8 hour training in Mental Health First Aid for Higher Education to give peers as well as faculty and staff the skills to help someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis. It is similar to CPR training which helps a person with no clinical training assistant an individual. For more information on all the services offered by CAPS visit online.
