  • At KU Endowment, we offer a competitive benefits package to employees who work 20 hours or more per week. New employees are eligible for most benefits on the first day of the month following date of hire. KU Endowment is proud to extend domestic partnership insurance benefits.

    Eligible employees enjoy the following benefits:

    Health Insurance
    Employees can choose between different plan options, and KU Endowment shares the cost of premiums for employees and their dependents.

    Dental Insurance
    Employees and their families are eligible for dental coverage following 30 days of employment. KU Endowment shares the cost of premiums for employees and their dependents.

    Vision Insurance
    Options for an Exam Only, or Exam Plus Materials plan are available.

    Flex Plan (Section 125 Pre-Tax Savings Plan)
    Also known as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), this program allows employees to set aside a portion of earnings to pay health and dental insurance premiums, unreimbursed medical expenses, and/or childcare. Contributions are made through pre-tax payroll deductions (i.e., before federal, state or social security taxes are assessed).

    Health Savings Account (HSA)
    For employees enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan option, Endowment will contribute funds to an HSA to help cover costs for medical, prescription drug, vision, and dental out-of-pocket expenses. Employees can also make pre-tax payroll contributions to their HSA.

    Matching 401(k) Retirement Plan
    Employees may voluntarily save for retirement by contributing to the KU Endowment 401(k) "defined-contribution" plan through payroll deduction. Employees elect to make contributions to the Regular 401(k) (tax-deferred), to the Roth 401(k) (after-tax), or a combination of these. KU Endowment provides up to 4% in matching funds. Employees are vested immediately on both the portion they contribute and the matching funds.

    Pension Plan

    KU Endowment provides at no cost a "defined-benefit" retirement plan. Upon retirement (usually age 65), employees who have served at least five years of service are entitled to receive a fixed monthly income for life.

    Life Insurance

    Benefits-eligible employees are automatically covered by insurance policies that cover basic term life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, and business travel accidents. Death benefits under these policies are paid to a named beneficiary of the employee's choosing. Premiums are paid in full by KU Endowment.

    Long-Term Disability Insurance
    The long-term disability program is designed to guard against financial loss due to a serious illness or accident. A bonus is paid to the employee to cover the cost of the premium.

    Short-Term Disability Insurance

    Employees may voluntarily enroll in the short-term disability plan that allows for benefits before the long-term disability coverage begins.

    Personal and Sick Leave

    Paid personal leave begins accruing with the date of employment (initially approximately 10 hours of personal leave per month for full-time employees). Sick leave is awarded at the beginning of each fiscal year and is prorated and awarded to new employees upon hire. Personal and sick leave are prorated for part-time employees.

    Holidays

    KU Endowment provides paid days off for New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

    Tuition Assistance
    Employees are eligible to receive reimbursement to partially offset the cost of undergraduate or graduate level classes at the University of Kansas. KU Endowment will provide up to $1,000 per year ($500 per semester) for staff members, their spouses, or dependent children if the course work counts toward a degree.

    Matching Gift
    Employees who contribute to existing or new KU Endowment funds can receive a one-to-one match on gifts of at least $25. This program helps employees support higher education at the University of Kansas.

    Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs)
    Employees may seek free advice and counsel regarding any number of life’s everyday challenges from two EAPs available: Humana EAP or Horizon Health EAP.

    ID Theft Protection
    The ID Theft Shield Protection product provides continuous monitoring of employee’s credit report and restoration of identity if ID theft occurs. Participants’ credit files are monitored daily and alerts are sent when activity occurs. Premiums are paid by the employee and coverage is provided for them, their spouse (if spouse’s name is on the application), and minor children, if elected.

    Legal Shield
    The LegalShield Plan product provides employees access to an attorney for creating a will, a living will, and a medical power of attorney. Additional benefits are included such as 24/7 access for telephone consultations.
